Music Mondays

Why hello there, on this Jubilee weekened. I guess I should have planned ahead and done a regal British affair however, these five are just two good I have to shout about them right away.

First up, what better way to start than our very own British beauty, Florence.

1. Florence & The Machine - Spectrum

Florence Welch also known collectively as a collaboration of other artists providing backing music as the highly acclaimed Florence & The Machine, are an English indie pop band.

The band have created several masterpieces, with their debut album 'Lungs' reaching the number one spot after charting for twenty-eight consecutive weeks in 2009. 'Ceremonials' was the second album release and came towards the end of 2011, debuting at number one in the UK and respectively number six over the water in the US.

It seems Florence can do no wrong, having won several prestigious awards such as the Critic's Choice Award at 2009 BRIT Awards and MasterCard British Album award at 2010 BRITs for 'Lungs'.

The newly released single, 'Spectrum' is another of Florence's heavenly delights, scheduled for release in July. The theatrical song is the perfect blend of the bands familiar rock and gospel sound and is set to be another hit for the incredibly talented singer-songwriter.

2. Misty Miller - Remember

Reminiscent of a young Laura Marling, this seventeen year old displays talents way beyond her years. Miller shows talent not only in songwriting but through her wondrous ukulele abilities and polished vocals.

With a blend of catchy folk and pop, this artist is surely not one to be missed. Having started to sing at an early age, Miller followed in her older brothers footsteps and picked up a guitar at the age of nine. This marked the start of Millers songwriting and the melodies began to flow, having recorded 'Remember' at the young age of twelve, it's fairly clear to see a raw talent, undoubtedly one to watch in the upcoming years.

3. Boy & Bear - Blood To Gold

Hailing from Australia, Boy & Bear are an indie-folk music band which formed in 2009. Initially intended as a solo project of vocals and guitar, Dave Hosking was joined by Killian Gavin, later expanding their band with the addition of bass guitar, drums, banjo, mandolin and keys.

It seems Boy & Bear come with a backing many could dream of in the folk world, for in 2010 they came to Britain landing support to our very own Laura Marling. Since, they have supported Mumford & Sons on several of their Australian dates.

The band released their debut album 'Moonfire' in 2011 and reached no.2 in the ARIA Albums Chart. Following this, their success accelerated, winning five awards at the ARIA Music Awards of 2011, including Breakthrough Artist and Album of the Year.

4. The Honey Trees - To Be With You

The Honey Trees are an indie pop band originating from San Luis, California. Consisting of Becky Filip and Jacob Wick, the dreamy duo recorded their first EP, 'Wake the Earth' in 2008, later released in 2009.

In this same year of 2009, they embarked on a small Californian tour, aptly named, 'The Teeny Tiny Tour'. The duo, along with touring members Aaron Wick, Aaron Coleman and Kevin Foster, are currently focusing on new material and I hope to see them release a tour soon.

5. Tallest Man on Earth - Where Do My Bluebird Fly

Hailing from Sweden, Kristian Matsson aka The Tallest Man of Earth has released three full length albums and two EPs. Best known for the recording and production of his own records, his vocals and intricate guitar abilities are amongst the best.

With comparisons rife to the likes of Bob Dylan, both in terms of vocal style and songwriting abilities, it comes as no surprise that the talented artist has landed support to the likes of Bon Iver, captivating many an audience with his powerful stage presence.

His single 'Where Do The Bluebirds Fly' is a display of his exceptional talent and features on his debut album, 'Shallow Grave', released in 2008. His upcoming third studio album, 'There's No Leaving Now' is scheduled for release next week, 11th June.

Hope you're having a great Monday and enjoying the time off if you're reading here in the UK.
Once again, a pleasure as always,

Hannah
